With this series, in which I make different approaches to the idea of a hymn based on the music that Pascual Veiga composed for the Galician hymn, I try to generate different readings and raise questions about the ideas of community, character, union, cohesion or representativeness , but also, in turn, on the ideas of differentiation, dysfunction or disunity: I play with the idea of hymn and what it means, how and why it is used, to ask questions about our community identity: what is it that we unite? How do we see others? How do others see us?

Thus, in the essay that the critic and professor Fernando Castro Flórez dedicates to this series, he remembers how HYMN does not have an edifying or reconciling will: “in the hymn we can hear not only the common emotion, but there is also the possibility that it is activated the sinister resonance, the echo of that which being familiar has become strange. This otherness of the hymn raised by Juan López would come to raise the question of what the images want: perhaps nothing or do they just want to preserve their enigmatic condition ”.

In the words of David Barro "in the HIMNO series the music of the Galician anthem declines in different and ironic critical possibilities on the margins of otherness".

Thus, the spectators will face different disfigured interpretations of Pascual Veiga's piece in which, for example, groups of interpreters may find themselves in total asynchrony with the rest, generating an infinite series of variations in discordance, an (not) original hymn in every moment.

With the pieces in this series I try to generate a choreography in space that tries to subtract the sequence from its literalness to turn it into a kind of stereotype in which the viewer is reflected, and, appealing to the collective memory, generate the questions previously cited.
